How I got here.

Ever since I was a child I have always enjoyed drawing. I mainly did so as a means of passing time throughout my teenage years because I was always told that doing art wasn’t a real career and to get a “real job”. My early working career began in the fast food industry where I worked my way up to Assistant Manager. Because I lived in the military town of Barstow, California, I eventually worked at several commissaries stocking the grocery shelves for the armed forces. Being the worker bee I was encouraged to become, I always did the best job whatever the job entailed; even going beyond what was necessary.

After some time, I moved to Las Vegas to get a fresh start. Shortly after moving to Sin City, I took a six-month course for civil engineering design since Las Vegas was booming with residential and commercial construction at the time. This career spanned over a decade where I designed and managed developments between multiple parties of engineers, contractors, developers, city agents, and others in order to get approvals for development within a specific timeframe and budget. I just may still be doing civil engineering design if the construction market hadn’t crashed in 2008. Instead of dwelling on the loss of income caused by the Great Recession, I saw this as an opportunity to get into my passion for art.

I explored different mediums from acrylics to digital art while refining my particular style. There was, and always is, so much to learn and I wanted to stay up to date with current trends. I have always had an interest in advertisement, from print to television, so I discovered Graphic Design, which was a natural fit for me. Through enthusiastic determination, I acquired my Bachelor’s in Graphic Design and recently a Master’s in Media Design. Now I am equipped with the fundamentals of design and the understanding behind the developing of concepts from ideation to execution.

With my experience in civil engineering design and my education in graphic design and media design I have built a strong understanding for developing of designs through stages of ideation, to revising and fine tuning concepts, to approval, and finally to the execution of relevant design solutions. Now I can filter my unbridled imagination through the analytical mind of an engineer to forge innovative concepts for any design problem.
